Featured Artist - Marisela Bracho

"Dance of the Elements" October's featured artist show of paintings by Marisela Bracho at the Lahaina Art Society.

The show will exhibit from October 3rd to November 6th, with an Opening Reception on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Banyan Tree Gallery at the Old Lahaina Courthouse.
Marisela Bracho, a long-term Maui resident, was born in Mexico City where she began her studies and career as an Artist. She earned a Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) at the University of Colorado at Boulder and pursued an extensive career as a Graphic Designer.

Marisela's watercolors are inspired by the dance that propels nature, the play of elemental forces, the motions of air and water, the infinite transformations of clouds or rivers flowing, and the rhythmic forms of plants or animals.

Her paintings are also inspiration for poetry. The poem opens a little window of words into the world of the painting, emphasizing the fact that each image is meant to unleash the imagination, and is subject to infinite interpretations.

Marisela has had solo exhibitions in Mexico City; Portland, Oregon; Boulder, Colorado; and Maui, Hawaii.

BIOGRAPHY

Marisela Bracho, a long-term Maui resident, was born in Mexico City where she began her studies and career as an Artist. She earned a Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) at the University of Colorado at Boulder and pursued an extensive career as a Graphic Designer.

For this exhibit, Marisela's media of choice is watercolors. Her main inspiration is nature, the patterns of movement that propel nature, the abstract living forces expressed in the forms of plants, landscapes or animals, the motions of air and water, the infinite transformations offered by clouds, oceans or rivers flowing. Sometimes the elements decompose totally into abstraction, others they manifest as recognizable form. The paintings touch the living surface with which nature covers itself: skin or petals,
their essential vitality, revealing with dynamic brush strokes the expressive partnership of paint and paper.

"I sip into myself as I paint, into what comes alive in me as my eyes move through the densities of color, as I participate in the dance of nature, like a gem reflecting a sun ray, acting as vehicle to its magnificence. I sip into the landscape as I paint, into the soul of plants, animals or stones, touching sensations with my eyes, pulling and pushing melodies, an active virtual participant, rendering the forms and gestures unfolding in nature as it sings songs of being."

Marisela has a passion for poetry and language. Her paintings are inspiration for poetry, and many of her pieces are accompanied by a poem. The poem opens a little window of words into the world of the painting, emphasiz
ing the fact that each image is meant to unleash the imagination, and is subject to infinite interpretations.

Marisela has had solo exhibitions in Mexico City; Portland, Oregon; Boulder, Colorado; and Maui, Hawaii. She also worked for over 20 years as a Graphic Designer designing a wide variety of publications, books, posters and promotional pieces.
